common-allergens

  • Access Economics Report: Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) (Reviewed April, 2011) stated that;
  • The highest prevalence of allergies: 78% of Australians aged 15 to 64 years in 2007.
  • A lack of appreciation of the impact of allergic disorders on quality of life.
  • Raising awareness of health impacts is an important factor in facilitating the early recognition and control of allergic disease.

ASCIA also reported that “The Australian population is ageing.  If current trends continue, there will be a 70% increase in the number of Australians with allergy from 2007 to 2050”.

Common indoor allergy sources include:

  • Mattresses, Bed linen
  • Upholstered furniture
  • Shag-pile or long-fibred carpets
  • Shower area, Toilets, Kitchen area
  • Soft toys, Shoes
  • Off-gassing from furniture, books, carpets, walls, etc…

Many studies (e.g. ASCIS in AUS, Asthma Foundation in NSW, EPA, British Medical Journal) show that appropriate remediation approaches can be effective in reducing the severity of allergic disease including asthma caused by the common allergens.
